For Reportei to correctly interpret your spreadsheet, it is necessary to classify each column as Metric, Dimension, Date or DimensionMetric This classification determines what types of widgets can be generated—charts, numbers, or tables.
Why charts need at least one dimension
Charts represent comparisons between periods, categories, campaigns, channels, etc. For this comparison to be possible, it’s necessary to have something that groups or distributes the values, and that’s exactly what a dimension does.
Without a dimension, there’s no way to organize the data in the chart.
A chart needs to answer questions like
- Which value belongs to which category,
- How the metric varies over time,
- What are the performances by campaign, channel, or month?
For this, it needs to know how to group the data, and this grouping is only possible when there is at least one column classified as
- Dimension,
- DimensionMetric or
- Date which also functions as a temporal dimension.
Why number widgets need metrics
Number widgets are used to display calculated values like sum, average, total, count, or other important indicators.
For this, they necessarily need a column classified as Metric or DimensionMetric containing numerical values.
Without a metric, there’s no way to
- sum values,
- calculate results,
- present totals or averages.
Therefore, when the spreadsheet doesn’t have any column classified as metric, it’s not possible to generate number widgets or charts, since charts also need values to compare. In this case, only the creation of Table.
Summary
- No dimension can’t create charts.
- No metric can’t create numbers or charts. Only tables.
- Has both everything becomes available: Charts, numbers, and tables.
How to solve
After finishing the mapping of columns in Reportei, it is not possible to edit their classifications.
If you need to adjust any type of column to unlock new widgets, it will be necessary to remove the current integration and add it again..
When redoing the process, make sure to review and correctly classify each column before completing the mapping.
