Understand Instagram Metrics on Reportei

Instagram remains one of the most relevant platforms for digital marketing. That’s why accurate and up-to-date analysis of its data is essential for those looking to make more strategic decisions.

At Reportei, we closely follow Instagram’s updates — especially API changes — to ensure that the metrics shown in our reports faithfully reflect the data provided by the platform.

Since 2024, Instagram has implemented significant API changes, such as introducing new metrics for content, and continued in 2025 with the replacement of the “Impressions” metric with “Views,” for example (we explain more in this article).

In this guide, we clearly explain how integration with Instagram works and which key metrics are affected by API limitations. Let’s dive in!

📊 How are Instagram data collected on Reportei?

Data collection depends directly on what Instagram makes available via API. This means some information may arrive with restrictions or specific formats — which we explain below.

🔍 Organic, Paid or Organic + Paid

Not all Instagram metrics include both organic and paid data. In many cases, the API provides only organic data.

Whenever possible, we indicate in the platform (by clicking the “?” icon next to the metric) whether that data refers to:

  • Organic
  • Paid
  • Organic + Paid

This way, you can better interpret your report results.

⏳ Followers and Stories History

Instagram does not provide historical data for followers or stories through its API. Therefore, we can only capture this data from the moment the account is integrated into Reportei. So, if you generate a report for a period prior to integration, the data will return with a message indicating that no history is available.

Metrics affected by this limitation:

  • Number of followers
  • Follower variation
  • All metrics related to Stories

📅 Post Data: Total vs. Partial

Instagram’s API allows two types of data queries for posts:

  1. Total Data

Reflect the full performance of the post during the analyzed period since it was published.

Post metrics with Total (Lifetime) data:
    • Organic post data (table)
    • Featured Reels (table)
    • Post interaction rate
    • Total reach of posts
    • Total reach of Reels
    • Total comments on posts
    • Total comments on Reels
    • Total shares of posts
    • Total shares of Reels
    • Total likes on posts
    • Total likes on Reels
    • Total post engagement
    • Total saves on posts
    • Total saves on Reels
    • Total views of posts
    • Total views of Reels

  2. Partial Data

Show performance within a specific period, regardless of post date. These metrics allow direct period comparisons.

    Metrics using Partial data:
    • Reach of posts from the last 30 days
    • Live reach
    • Carousel reach
    • Ad reach
    • Reel reach from the last 30 days
    • Comments on posts
    • Comments on Reels
    • Shares of Reels
    • Shares
    • Image shares
    • Live shares
    • Carousel shares
    • Ad shares
    • Likes
    • Likes on posts
    • Likes on Live
    • Likes on carousels
    • Likes on ads
    • Likes on Reels
    • Post interactions
    • Live interactions
    • Carousel interactions
    • Ad interactions
    • Reel interactions
    • Post saves
    • Reel saves
    • Ad saves
    • Saves
    • Live saves
    • Carousel saves

These partial data match what is found in Instagram Insights.

We’ll always follow updates and improvements to social media and other channels to keep Reportei up to date. =)
